R. Manny Montero

R. Manny MonteroThrough his advocacy of consumer cases, Mr. Montero has become an influential leader in the growing Latino community. He prides himself in assisting those who have been victims of unfair, deceptive and predatory business practices. Prior to establishing Montero Law Group, LLC, Mr. Montero handled a large volume bankruptcy practice in Montgomery County, Maryland.

A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, Mr. Montero has handled hundreds of consumer bankruptcy and personal injury cases. Mr. Montero has also developed a considerable list of small business clients; representing those clients in matters including: lease negotiations, collections, business formations, tax problems, contract disputes, creditor's rights, OSHA investigations, real estate disputes and development and general civil litigation.

Jude Wikramanayake

Jude Wikramanayake Mr. Wikramanayake is a native Washingtonian and a honors graduate of the American University and the George Washington University Law School, where he served on the editorial Board of the Public Contract Law Journal. He is experienced in resolving a wide spectrum of client issues.

Mr. Wikramanayake's prior legal positions include interning for the Honorable Judge Inez Smith of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals; employment as a Real Estate and Zoning attorney at the largest law firm in Montgomery County, Maryland, and as an associate for a leading criminal defense and white collar practice in Washington D.C., in which he was involved in defending individuals accused of crimes ranging from Driving While Intoxicated to white collar fraud.

Mr. Wikramanayake's scope of knowledge includes all aspects of commercial and civil litigation, contract litigation, contract drafting, bankruptcy, criminal law, and zoning and land-use. Mr. Wikramanayake's expertise protects clients from pitfalls in certain transactions, guiding them to desired objectives.

Client list includes: Developers, home improvement contractors, homeowners pursuing contract claims, small businesses, creditors and debtors in bankruptcy matters, real estate investors, and consumers pursuing claims against lenders and credit bureaus.

D. Scott Messersmith

D. Scott Messersmith Mr. Messersmith is a native of Salisbury, Maryland, a former naval officer, and an honors graduate from the University of Maryland School of Law. He comes to the Montero Law Group from the State's Attorney's Office in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, where he served as an Assistant State's Attorney for a number of years. Mr. Messersmith is an extremely experienced trial attorney, thoroughly versed in the criminal law. He has prosecuted thousands of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases in the District and Circuit courts, including: driving on suspended license, drunken driving, theft, domestic violence, drug possession and distribution, felony assault, handgun possession and use, and murder.

Michael A. Ostroff

A graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law, Michael A. Ostroff joined Montero Law Group, LLC in October 2009. He practices primarily in the area of consumer bankruptcy (both Chapters 7 and 13), including motions to avoid deeds of trust and judicial liens, motions to value collateral, and motions to modify confirmed Chapter 13 plans. Mr. Ostroff has experience with bankruptcy planning, resolving mortgage defaults, and general credit management. He is also involved in the firm’s real estate matters, civil litigation, minor criminal cases, and traffic/DUI matters.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Ostroff’s experience included participation in the University of Maryland School of Law’s Appellate and Post-Conviction Clinic and various internships with organizations such as the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the United States Department of State, and the Australian Law Reform Commission. He graduated cum laude from Villanova University School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with a bachelor’s degree in the Humanities and minors in Economics and Spanish. He was also awarded the Karol J. Wojtyla Medal of Excellence in the Humanities.

Nancy L. Gusman

Nancy L. Gusman, Esq, heads the Real Estate Settlement Department for Montero Law Group, LLC in the Silver Spring, MD. Ms. Gusman's education includes a Bachelor of Arts Degree in the University of Maryland, and a J.D. from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, Washington, D.C.. She is admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the State of Maryland and before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals.

She brings over 20 years experience in real estate transactions in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. She has been very active in the structuring and financing of commercial and residential real estate transactions, and has developed expertise in handling complex issues such as foreclosure, bankruptcy, investment property, distress transactions, delayed settlement transactions, low credit financing, and advising clients with regard to state and federal regulations in financing.

She has managed offices for several title companies and owned her own title company and law practice. In addition, Nancy sat as underwriting counsel for a national title insurance company for several years. She is currently the Executive Vice President for the Maryland Land Title Association, where she has repeatedly served in the past as Chair of the Education Committee.
